Saints Tame The LionsSaints Tame The Lions

15 November 2008

This was the second time this season these teams faced each other in competition. The opening game of the season being the first , and a resounding victory for the Lions by some 18 points. However some changes were evident .. Gone was 6’8” Canadian Marion Pompey replaced by American Centre Joel Green for Limerick Lions. The Saints were missing Martins Provizors (Latvia) now away on his belated Honeymoon.

Rob Lynch (Lions) opened the scoring to this encounter only to be cancelled out by Eoin Darling in the following seconds. Both sides trading baskets throughout this rematch. Emmet Donnelly was the Qtr’s top scorer (8Pts) after the first ten minutes but Lions had a two points lead. DCU Saints 21 – 23 L’ Lions.

Eoin Darling although only subbed in midway through the second Qtr (for Kevin Lacey) managed to add 9 more points to his tally and the games top scorer on 13Pts for the half. Kinnevane and Joel Green for Lions also featured greatly on the score sheet, but with the scores level on 43Pts . Everything to play for at the restart.. DCU 43 – 43 Lions.

James “D” showed his class under pressure from the Lions to score two from “Down Town” early in the Qtr, as the visitors Sat Nav can’t locate the Saints basket . DCU Saints now pushing for the game, shut out the best from the Limerick attack. Two points from the Lions offence after over six minutes played and it showed as Green is benched and suffers the ire of the Lions Head Coach Sasa Punosevac. The Saints well in control as this Qtr comes to an end much to the relief of the visitors. DCU Saints 65—56 Lions.

This cloud didn’t have any silver linings for the Limerick Lions….. It just got worse.. Eoin Darling had the Midas touch as he left the Lions floundering in his wake as he scored a blistering further16Pts this Qtr (29Pts total) and could do no wrong with the ball ! Solid defence from Captain Mike Trimmer (5 Blocks) along with the Donnelly Trinity (all on double scores) making sure of this fine performance from the DCU Saints and a pleasure to watch by the home fans. F.T. DCU Saints 93 – 75 L’Lions .
