Casey Ortiz “finally” receives his licence to play in the Nivea for Men’s SuperLeague after over two months in limbo . Not a moment too soon as Captain Mike Trimmer is still on a Thanksgiving holiday with the folks in the USA. Martins Provizors is also back with the DCU Saints to face our visitors tonight … Shamrock Hoops.

Clint Dias establishes his presence for the visitors with the opening basket. The Saints follow soon after as these closely matched sides trade basket for basket down to the final whistle of this Qtr. The Saints in the lead but only just. Up by 1 point.

The Saints have the brighter start, and open up a slender lead. Despite missed free throws and indifferent handling skills they manage to establish a 7point cushion at half time. Kevin Lacey is the leading man for the DCU Saints (10pts) and J. Reed is Hoops shining light also on 10pts. 44 – 37 for DCU Saints at Half Time.

The third Qtr starts and the Saints hit a rich vein of form, Mark Nagle (DCU) shows no fear at this level and sinks a couple of baskets in this fiercely defensive battle between these two sides . Former St Vincent’s player Phil Taylor, now with the Hoops scores two outside baskets to narrow the gap between the two sides. DCU Saints working hard for every score and justify their 14 point lead at Qtr’s end. DCU Saints 65 – 51 Hoops.

The Saints ease off the pedal and pay the price as Rob Grant and J Reed (Hoops) step up to be counted and close the game down to just 4points . Forcing the Saints to call a much-needed time-out. Casey and Martins are subbed back in and the Saints quell the Hoops brief revival. Emmet going to the charity line and hitting 4 from 4, to open up the lead, one final time for the Saints.
An excellent debut for Casey and a much needed win for Coach Vinny O’Keeffe to steady the squad going into the National Cup game against Neptune on Sunday week.
